Experiencing the Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club is a dream for many golf enthusiasts. For first-time visitors, the myths are very much true—the television broadcast comes nowhere close to doing justice to this magnificent 365-acre cathedral of golf.

To get the most from your visit, numerous strategic viewing spots will significantly enhance your time witnessing one of the world's most prestigious sporting events. In between, there are also a handful of experiences that many longtime fans deem necessary to ensure your time on hallowed Augusta National grounds lasts a lifetime.

The Nine Best Viewing Spots at Augusta National Golf Club

1. Grandstands Left of the 15th Green (Firethorn)

Surprised the iconic Amen Corner doesn't earn top billing? While that trifecta of holes does grab our second spot, there is no better location on the course for pure tournament viewing than the Grandstands (referenced as observation stands on Augusta's patron map) to the left of the 15th green.

Arguably the best view of continuous action on multiple key holes at once, from this vantage point, you can watch the daring approaches and clutch putting at the par-5 15th green, witness the entirety of par-3 16th, catch glimpses of the action at the par-3 6th green, and admire the tee shots from the 17th tee.

2. Amen Corner – Holes 11 (White Dogwood), 12 (Golden Bell), and 13 (Azalea)

Amen Corner embodies the soul of Augusta. And while it might rank second from a pure golf action point of view, nothing can top gazing upon three architectural masterpieces—golf's most famous three-hole stretch.

For the most iconic experience, secure a spot directly behind the par-3 12th tee with your green Master's chair—yes, another Augusta myth that's true; place your chair, and it's your spot for the day—and witness nerve-wracking shots over Rae's Creek, and equally tense approaches into the 11th green. There's also a grandstand behind the 12th tee, which offers an elevated viewpoint, but it fills up fast and remains that way throughout the tournament.

The best location to see action on the magical par-5 13th is along the gallery ropes at the hole's doglog. From here, you can watch tee shots as they land and approaches as they take off.

3. Behind the 16th Tee (Redbud)

From here, you can closely watch tee shots on this iconic par-3 and drama at the adjacent 15th green. It's also conveniently near amenities, making it a comfortable and strategic home base during tournament days.

4. Near the 2nd Green (Pink Dogwood)

Ideal for full-field days on Thursday and Friday, this spot allows spectators to see thrilling long-range approaches and eagle opportunities on the par-5 2nd hole. The proximity to holes 3 (Flowering Peach) and 7 (Pampas) makes it an efficient place to experience early-round action. Track back up between holes 2 and 3, and you'll have a great vantage point to tee shots off the par-3 4th (Flowering Crab Apple).

5. Right-hand Side of the 10th Fairway (Camellia)

Offering dramatic views of Augusta's famously downhill 10th hole—the elevation change is another feature television can't accurately convey—this vantage point lets spectators watch pivotal tee shots and challenging approaches. It's also close enough to the 11th tee and 14th green (Chinese Fur) to easily follow significant tournament developments.

6. Behind the 6th Tee (Juniper)

This elevated spot provides expansive views of players tackling the tricky par-3 6th hole and the adjacent 5th (Magnolia). It offers unique insights into players' short-game strategies and precision shot-making skills.

7. Adjacent to the 8th Tee (Yellow Jasmine)

This location gives you a dynamic view of golfers strategizing their tee shots on the lengthy 8th hole while catching the action from the 7th and 17th greens. It's perfect for spectators who prefer fewer crowds without compromising great views.

8. Around the 18th Green (Holly)

If you're attending Sunday's final round, plant your chair early at the 18th green so you have a front-row seat to history when the champion is crowned later in the day. For another perspective of this iconic closer, position yourself directly behind the 18th tee for a handful of groups and marvel at how narrower the hole is than what the TV broadcast conveys and the impossibility of threading a needle through another needle.

9. Grandstand at the 17th Green (Nandina)

Though less famed than other spots, this grandstand offers an intimate, front-row seat to the 8th tee, 15th fairway, and 17th green, where the energy is palpable and immersive on the weekend. It also places you close to restrooms, concessions, and one of the on-course merchandise shops.

An Additional Viewing Strategy: Walk the Course...In Reverse

Although walking the course is far from a novel concept, one of the best ways to soak in the beauty and brawn of Augusta National and catch a ton of action along the way is to do so in reverse. Regardless of the tournament day, once a handful of groups tee off from the first hole, start your ascent down the 18th. Walking the inward nine before any action takes place allows for a more reflective appreciation of some of golf's iconic closing holes.

Time your trek right, and you'll pick up the early groups as they take on Amen Corner. Upon exiting the 10th, conduct the same exercise from holes 9 (Carolina Cherry) through 1 (Tea Olive), which becomes less crowded as more groups begin to play the back nine. From there, you can pick up the late starting big name groups on Thursday or Friday or the leaders if attending on the weekend. No doubt a challenging walk, thanks to the course's 160 feet of elevation change, but one you won't soon forget.
